update

I've got a good blog idea but somwhere along the line I got sidetracked into googling some korean things first. Since I didn't find what I was looking for, I'd rather wait until the blog forms in my brain first so that it makes sense. There's no reason to blog it halfassed.

With that said, I haven't been updating much on the differences between here and the States because I'm still exploring and understanding. Only recently I began to understand myself and my past and my culture.

I'll give you one example. If you know me, you probably have noticed that I sit on the floor or lay on the floor. It doesn't bother me none. I always wondered why other people looked at me funny when I sit on the floor at a party because all the seats are filled. That's my Korean undertones kicking in. Koreans eat and sleep on the floor. The more modern ones now have a small kitchen table but generally everyone sits on the floor and eats off of a little table. To sleep, you pull out a thin mattress from the blanket closet (I'll expand later on that) and then you sleep on the floor.

I know this seems horrifying to Americans because it is not in our custom to sleep on the floor. That is only reserved for camping outdoors and even so we bring along provisions like a camper.

The more modern (and richer) Koreans have beds. It's the same style as western beds but instead of a mattress, there is a hard material like marble ect.. My uncle has one and they just put the thin mattress that we sleep on the floor with and sleep on top of the bed like that.

I know it's weird but it is another culture so things are bound to be different.

But sleeping on the floor and eating on the floor helped me to realize how Korean I actually am. It's it my blood. Sleeping on the floor isn't too uncomfortable. I actually elected to sleep on the floor last night rather than on the couch.

Strange as it it, I'm slowly understanding myself and getting to explore a side of me that I've never seen before. I would write more about it but I still haven't wrapped my head around everything yet. I don't think I will be able to fully understand my visit until I get back home.

Don't worry though, I am still going to blog. I'm just going to blog about little adventures and ect.. I'm saving the deep stuff for later.

By the way, I absolutely LOVE the comments that I've been recieving. It helps me to keep blogging. Sometimes I feel like no one cares to read about my musings so the comments let me know you are all still interested. Thank you!
