Last night I had a biology lab. First why does an Associate in Arts major need to take Biology? I certainly wasn't going to take Chemistry or Physics.
Cara informed me that most colleges offer a environmental science to non science majors which piques my interests greatly. SCORE! I looked through the catalogue and sure enough, my school does offer it... except that it won't apply to my degree. Go figure. If I was in horticulture or something then it would apply. So in the meantime I will suffer through biology which I will never use again. *I probably will take Environmental Science later as an elective because I love learning about our planet and different ways we can hold onto it.*
In class I asked the girl next to me if she was any good at biology and she gave a half shrug and said she took high school biology three years ago. I laughed and counted back, then mortified, I replied it was NINE years ago I took high school biology. HOLY MOLY! That made me feel old.
The lab was interesting. I sat next to Qui which is pronounced Wee just like Wii the video game. He is Vietnamese. He works in the library too. Next to him sat his other Asian friend which I think was from India. Next to him sat Kanji who is from the Philippines.
The four of us were the only Asians in the class and we managed to sit together. How did that happen? I thought it was pretty hilarious and announced it to the class. The class didn't seem so amused. Need to bring a gallon of Red Bull next time and wake them up! My new Asian friends got a kick out of it though.
For for the first time in my school history I experienced my name mispronounced. Before I was married I was Elizabeth Bennett. Nice and easy. Now I am a Remus and I love being married to Dan but now my name is called near the end of roll call instead of at the start and one teacher pronounces it Ray-mus. Nope. Just like it's spelled, Ree-mus.
Also for the first time I am allowing teachers to call me Liz. I think I was about 18 when I switched from Elizabeth to Liz. In high school it would infuriate me when teachers would call me Liz. I hated the informality of it. Now it's just easier. People remember it easier than Elizabeth. I guess the extra two syllabus is too much to remember.

Biology and the evolution of my name
